Great Expectations

As I am already bored back home in West Chester, Ohio I thought I’d take some time out of my busy schedule to write a pre-trip post discussing my goals and fears for my upcoming semester in London and things that I’ll miss about home. Here we go….

Goals:

  1. Make Friends ASAP: I’m definitely glad that I spent a lot of time making new friends last semester (thanks Richie and Brenden for leaving me) so that I could leave them all and start all over in London. This is my number one goal and also my number one fear (see Fears).
  2. See Brand New at Wembley: Brand New, if you haven’t heard, is awesome. And if you don’t like their new cd because, “it’s too screamo,” then you don’t know “s”. I’m pretty sure my little sister will be reading this so I will only use harsh letters instead of the actual words. In order to accomplish this goal I will need to Make Friends ASAP because there’s nothing more pathetic than going to a concert alone. Trust me; I’ve done it before (Circa Survive, Fall 2007).
  3. Manage to Have a Fun 21st: The drinking age in the UK is 18. I’m 21 one week after I get to London. How anticlimactic is that??? No Tombs stamp on the head and no rager at Carroll House (tear) but I WILL have fun!
  4. Pretend I’m British and Mack on Drunk American Girls: I’ve seen all the Harry Potter movies and I am fairly confident that I can make this happen. Plus I’ve already promised Dede I would do it.
  5. Not Run Out of Money: Yeah.
  6. Find the Harry Potter Film Crew: There’s one more Harry Potter movie to be filmed and this is my best chance to A.) Be an extra and maybe die in the final battle sequence or B.) Find Emma Watson and marry her.

Fears:

  1. Not Making Friends ASAP: I only have five months; time to turn on the charm.
  2. Getting Lost: Pretty self explanatory.
  3. Taken- Even as a boy I am scared to death of being abducted, being forced to take heroin and then being sold into sex slavery. If you’ve seen the movie, you know what I’m talking about. I will be avoiding Albanians.
  4. The Food: I’ve heard horror stories about British food. No more Qdoba Mondays or late nights at Tuscany.
  5. Running Out of Money: If I run out of money before Easter Break I won’t get to go on my romantic vacation to Paris with Richie!!! Got to find a job.

What Will I Miss?

  1. Pizza: Be it Tuscany, Larosa’s, Dominoes or Leo’s Make Your Own Pizzas I will be going through pizza withdrawal this spring. Not looking forward to it.
  2. Family/Ohio: I know it’s hard to imagine a stud such as myself getting homesick, but it does happen on occasion. If this rare feeling ever creeps up while I’m abroad all I have to do is look at my Ohio flag, my family portrait that I take everywhere and/or my framed picture of Kirby sleeping on the couch.
  3. Georgetown Day: This is probably the greatest tragedy of all. I’m going to miss Georgetown Day?!?! Somebody please take video of Bobby dancing with Theater chicks.
  4. America: Now I don’t own a gun and or an American flag bandanna, but as an American Studies major I do love America. I know there are a lot of America-haters out there (Richie) and I plan to represent my country as best I can to show all those America-hating liberals that you can be an American without being a bigot. If somebody has a problem with America, they’ve obviously never been there or they’re from California.
  5. Friends: Georgetown and SWOHIO friends will be greatly missed, for the most part ; ).

I think that’s enough for now. I hope everyone enjoys their Winter Break and I will update you all soon!

  2. Ok my responses...

First of all, why aren't you going to use your american accent to mack on british chicks?? It's more authentic, a la Richie using his california accent hahahaha.

And don't blame me for leaving pijo Georgetown. After living here for 9 monthes, I really have no idea how I'm gonna go back to Gtown's environment.

Haha, I was going to say cool it with the Richie as an American hater stuff, but being over here for 4 months has only reinforced my dislike for CERTAIN aspects of the US. I don't hate the US though. And sorry California (at least norcal, socal's just more superficial) is more progressive than the rest of the country. I must say in my time here, I've missed California, but I can't say I miss DC or the US.

As for the profanity in your post...you won't swear but you'll talk about some irrational fear of being abducted and forced into sex slavery???

And lastly, my dad's working on those Arsenal tickets for us for the weekend of the 20th/21st of March. And you BEST save your money for Paris.
